HOW MANY ROOMS ARE THERE?
Tropic Star Lodge has accommodations for 38 guests in 18 comfortably appointed, air-conditioned rooms on the grounds.
We have 4 cabins, eight rooms total; three have an additional side bedroom when a third person is added. Casa Grande has 8 rooms, double or single occupancy. Coco has 3 rooms. The Palace has 3 bedrooms. (Palace accommodation is available as a paid upgrade)
DO WE HAVE WI-FI?
There is limited Wi-Fi available at the lodge due to our remote location. Wi-fi is available on the veranda and dining room areas for emails and text only. We ask that you not download documents, video or streaming video as we are all sharing the same system. We have two computers available 24/7 for your use in the office area.
IS THERE CELL PHONE RECEPTION?
Currently there is no cell phone reception at the lodge, but there is a pay phone for outgoing calls. Phone cards are inexpensive and available for purchase in the boutique at the lodge for $12.00. This will provide you with 3 hours of calling time to the US. Please note that the pay phone is not always reliable so some guests choose to bring a satellite phone.
WHAT IF SOMEONE NEEDS TO REACH US IN CASE OF EMERGENCY?
In the event of an emergency, the Orlando office (407-423-9931 - 800-682-3424) and they will relay a message to the Panama City office and on to the lodge. After hour emergencies can contact Bonnie Karp on her cell @ 1-407-267-6231.
WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO AT THE LODGE?
There are different things you can do at the lodge, relax, kayaking, hiking to pristine white beach, visit the village, swim at the pool, take a tour of our facility to see how it operates, you can also have a massage while at the lodge.
DO WE NEED ANY SPECIAL VACCINES TO TRAVEL TO THE LODGE?
At the present time no vaccines are needed, but it would be best to consult with your physician.
ARE THERE MOSQUITOES OR BUG?
No mosquitoes due to the fact that we do not have standing water, but you are welcome to bring your repellent. Being in the jungle, there can be a surprise so why not be prepared just in case?
WHAT IS THE MEAL SCHEDULE?
Breakfast is served from 6AM in the restaurant. Lunch is provided on your boat daily. The captains and mates have their own meals, so no need for you to share. For non-fishing guests, lunch is served at 12:00 noon on the veranda. DINNER: We serve dinner buffet style, poolside every Saturday,Tuesday and Thursday evenings. All other meals are four course which are served in the dining room. Dinner commences at 7:00p.m. each evening and a menu card will be given to you at breakfast with meal selections. Please fill in your name, room number and choice for that evening's meal and hand it to a waiter at breakfast. Poolside dinners offer a variety of choices, therefore no menus will be provided. If you have any food allergies or special dietary needs please advise one of our key staff members upon your arrival.
IS THERE LAUNDRY SERVICE?
Laundry is done on Tuesday and Thursday. In your room, you will find a laundry basket and the cost is split between guests sharing a room. If you desire laundry on another day, just let us know before leaving for fishing. Sorry, no dry cleaning facilities here in the jungle!
DO WE USE BOTTLED WATER OR TAP WATER? IS IT SAFE?
Our water at the lodge is excellent and safe to drink out of the tap. With conservation in mind, we limit plastics and use bottled water when necessary.
IS THERE SECURITY OR POLICE FOR SAFETY AT THE LODGE?
We have a security/police detail onsite with the the Coastguard stationed within 20min of the lodge.
DO YOU HAVE HAIR DRYERS IN THE ROOMS AT THE LODGE?
Each room has a hair dryer located in the drawer in the bathroom.
WHAT IS THE ELECTRICAL VOLTAGE?
Voltage is the same as the United States and Canada: 110V.
WHAT IS THE CURRENCY?
The lodge operates on US dollars.
HOW SHOULD I PACK? WHAT ITEMS SHOULD I BRING?
Keep our tropical jungle location in mind when packing; we suggest that you pack the following items for maximum comfort. Laundry service is available twice weekly (Tuesday and Thursday).
* Light weight rain gear (keep in your carry-on luggage)
* Good quality sunscreen with a high SPF
* Polarized sunglasses
* Casual attire (light, loose cotton clothing, include a long-sleeve shirt)
* Swim suits and shorts
* Rubber-soled shoes and older tennis or beach walking shoes
* Wide-brimmed hat
* Personal items (e.g. medications, toiletries)
* Cameras (standard and video) film, CF Cards, SD cards, batteries, etc.
WHAT ITEMS DOES THE BOUTIQUE CARRY?
Our boutique carries Guy Harvey artwork and top quality clothing featuring Guy Harvey's designs. There are also hats, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a selection of jewelry from all over the world. It is well worth a visit. If we are not open when you'd like to shop, please just ask one of our staff.
DO YOU SERVE ALCOHOL?
We have 2 bars which serve a variety of beers wine and cocktails. We will provide a few complimentary beers and complimentary wine at dinner. The rest of your bar tab is your responsibility and will be added to your bill. If you brought your own alcohol we ask that you enjoy it in your room or room porch. Our drinks price list is in the bar and can be provided in your room on request. We highly recommend our signature “Piñas Colada" cocktail.
