Our bus will collect you from the airport upon your arrival to Panama City and drive you to your hotel. You will be collected the next morning and driven to the regional airport (around 30 minute drive). Our charters depart from a hangar and the flight is just under an hour to Bahia Pinas.
Lodge staff and our “Chiva” bus will meet you at the Pinas airstrip and drive you to our “panga” water taxi. The transport takes around 10 to 15 minutes.

Kids are welcome at Tropic Star Lodge. We run our Kids Club special during spring and summer vacation periods. Kids Club is a great introduction to fishing, we make it a lot of fun. We provide activities and education in conservation and the environment. Click here for more details
We have an incredible array of different bird species that can be spotted at the lodge including guests’ favorites: Hummingbirds, Toucans, and Parakeets. The property holds an exciting amount of life including Ocalots, Deer, Wild Turkey, Agoutis, and Foxes. To name just a few. Further up into our property, we are also home to the larger cats such as Mountain Lion, Panther and Jaguar.

For those that want to spend a relaxing day back at the lodge, breakfast is served at your leisure and lunch served in the Bayview Restaurant or poolside. You can choose to relax on your patio or by the pool. Enjoy our Rainforest Spa and indulge in a variety of treatments.
A day can also be spent relaxing on Playa Blanca, a beautiful and pristine white sand beach ideal for lounging and swimming. A small reef for snorkeling is also a short swim from the beach.
If you’d like a little more physical activity, you can arrange a personal training session with our onsite trainer. Or you can hike to Playa Blanca, a challenging one-mile hike cut through the jungle. Kayaking and paddle-boarding in the bay are also available to use at your leisure.
We also have lovely boutique to shop around in as well as the weekly market of beautiful crafts the local artisans set up at the lodge. The artisans sell intricate handwoven baskets, wood sculptures, beadwork, and other wares.
We can accommodate most dietary needs and food allergies. Please let us know your food allergies or specific diet prior to your arrival. We can accommodate vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and Kosher products, to name a few. However, your diet may require special products so please let us know ahead of your arrival.
We’d be happy to source something special for your trip if it’s available in the country of Panama. Please let reservations know ahead of your stay so we can coordinate that for you.
Dining at the Bayview Restaurant is casual smart and the Jungle BBQ pool is tropical casual.
Yes, the water at Tropic Star Lodge is natural spring water that gets stored in our dams and then filtered before reaching our faucets. Upon arrival you will get a Tropic Star Tumbler. Boats are equipped with Yeti water coolers and ice for your refill.
We charge for bottled water due to the pollution pressure on the environment these need to be shipped back to Panama City for recycling.
Laundry baskets are provided in your rooms and pick up is Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, or at guest request. Charges are minimal. Ironing service is provided. No dry-cleaning service is available.
All rooms have large en-suite bathrooms with built in closets. All are equipped with US electric outlets. Air Conditioners, wall safes, hairdryers, shampoo, conditioner and liquid bath soap. All rooms have nice patios where you can enjoy the surrounding jungle and or views of the bay.
Yes, we have a few rooms that have a handicap shower and toilets and one that is accessible without the use of stairs. We have a wheelchair and electric wheelchair on site. Our staff will assist wherever possible and the boat crews are incredibly helpful. Please let our reservations team know if you have any recent injuries or need a more accessible room as some of our rooms do require the use of stairs.
Internet connection is available in our hub areas. It is provided by a satellite provider and can be slow especially in bad weather. Due to the speed, we ask guests to please not stream or live video as these slow down the system for other guests.
There is a computer and printer for guests should you want to print boarding passes etc.
Our rooms do not have televisions. We have a TV in our Bayview Bar and Marlin Bar where sporting events can be streamed when necessary.
The long-standing tradition of Tropic Star Lodge is to get away from it all. We wish for all our guests to disconnect and enjoy time on the water and on land having real conversations with loved ones and exchanging fishing tales.
The voltage throughout Panama is 110 just like in the US; therefore, outlet adapters will not be necessary for your appliances in the hotel rooms.
Our boutique is stocked with the essential items you may need. The shop is open before and after fishing for you to enjoy
What should I not forget to pack?
Sunscreen, medications, sun hats, comfortable fishing gear (or visit our lovely gift shop), hiking shoes, bathing suite, breathable raingear from April to early December.
Panama City is also known for their great shopping.
Keep our tropical jungle location in mind when packing; we suggest that you pack the following items for maximum comfort. Laundry service is available twice weekly (Tuesday and Thursday).
- Light weight rain gear (keep in your carry-on luggage)
- Good quality sunscreen with a high SPF
- Polarized sunglasses
- Casual attire (light, loose cotton clothing, include a long-sleeve shirt)
- Swim suits and shorts
- Rubber-soled shoes and older tennis or beach walking shoes
- Wide-brimmed hat
- Personal items (e.g. medications, toiletries)
- Cameras (standard and video) film, CF Cards, SD cards, batteries, etc.
Panama requires that you complete a permit to fly your drone, even though the lodge is isolated it is close to an airfield. Please follow the link here to fill out this form online. (We can assist with this.)
The village of Piñas is a panga and chiva ride away. We have weekly trips to the local village of Piñas where you can hang out with your captain and mate. We visit the school, general store, see the community projects, and end the tour at the local cantina. Always a favorite experience!
Gratuities are at your discretion and depend on the level of service received.
For land-based staff, we recommend $250 to $300 per guest per stay. You do, of course, have the option to pay staff members directly. At our guests’ request, we do provide a gratuity guideline sheet at the end of your stay.
We have full medical supplies at the lodge including basic medications. We have qualified first aid responders on staff. The village has a clinic with a full-time doctor. Every guest that stays with us has purchased medivac services.
