ABOUT THE FISHING
world-renowned fishing destination
There are only a few places in the world’s oceans where anglers can target Black Marlin consistently. Pinas Bay, Panama is right at the top of that list. During our peak winter season, the marlin fishing at Tropic Star Lodge is like no were else on the planet. The fishing grounds are under five miles from the Lodge. The famous Zane Grey Reef is in our backyard and the fish that it hosts is incredible. The Largest fish ever caught on this reef was a 1 300lbs Black Marlin which was famously filmed by Guy Harvey.
The sheer variety of species that can be targeted in the seas that surround the waters off Piñas Bay is incredible. Blue Marlin, with some going over 800lbs, can be targeted further offshore at the continental shelf drop-off, which is only 8 miles from the lodge.
The Sailfish come through our fishery in big numbers and anglers can release double digit fish with double and triple headers during prime time. It is also on a very short list of places in the world you can release a Black Marlin, a Blue Marlin and a Sailfish in a single day to achieve a Grand Slam. Tropic Star recently released 15 personal Grand Slams.
Our Dorado are massive; with many of them breaking that coveted 50lbs mark. The Yellowfin tuna feeding frenzies offshore Tropic Star Lodge have to be seen to be believed. The smaller tuna of 120lbs and below are amazing fun casting poppers at and seeing them smash them in a flurry of white water. The bigger tuna can go well over 300lbs.
We have had guests release over 15 different species in a single day of fishing.
Fisherman from the world over come to Tropic Star Lodge to catch the angry “wrath of the rocks,” the Roosterfish; or the tackle-breaking and toothy Cubera Snappers. Guests also catch giant Bluefin Trevally, Broomtail Groupers, Almaco Jacks and even Tarpon in the waters close to Tropic Star’s shores.
Fishing techniques practiced for Inshore are jigging, casting different lures, trolling and using live bait.
The Lodge has broken over 300 world records, including junior anglers to light tackle, fly fishing and everything in between. Our Captains have incredible experience having gone through extensive training with us. Fishing is all about passion, enjoyment and camaraderie and that is exactly what our crews are all about.
Our Tackle Shop is open 14 hours a day to make sure all the tackle is in perfect condition for each guest, we service our great diligently and change line out for each new guest arrival.
